title MORE NVQ SUCCESS FOR ADVANTAGE

Nine members of staff of Advantage Windows and Conservatories Ltd, the Cheshire - based trade
fabricator, were recently awarded National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ's) to level 2 and level 3.
The awards, which also included two apprenticeship certificates, were awarded in the
'Production of Glass Supporting Fabrication' by the Glass Qualification Authority.

The assessments were
made over a period of
10 -12 months by
assessors from the
Vocational College,
using a combination of
observation, questioning
and evidence gathering.

NVQ's are nationally
recognised qualifications
and the nine members
of staff were assessed
on their proficiency in
several areas including
the controlling of
fabrication operations,
the setting up of
fabricating operations
and good health and
safety practices.

They also learnt how to
plan and use factory
resources more effectively
and how to assess quality
and diagnose and rectify
any technical problems.

Cath Salt is the Human Resources Manager at Advantage.
She works closely with the Vocational College and sees part of her role within the company as providing
an educational framework for members of staff to acquire new skills and progress within the company.
She says: "The awards are recognition of an employee's training, competence and flexibility within their
given roles. They act as a motivational tool and also assist in helping to recruit new members of staff
because new recruits can see a commitment from the company and an investment in their training.
But, most important of all, these awards are a demonstration to our customers that Advantage
is constantly striving for the highest possible standards of manufacturing and service."
